You Are Welcome Here
#YouAreWelcomeHere is a welcome message from U.S. higher education to international students around the world. West Virginia University is proud to participate in #YouAreWelcomeHere by offering two scholarships to new incoming F-1 Students for the Fall 2022 semester. This renewable scholarship awards an annual sum of $15,000 each year for up to four years of study. The #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship mirrors WVU's beliefs that our campus is a friendly, safe, and engaging place where all are welcome and belong in our Mountaineer Family.
Eligibility Criteria
- Be a first-year international (F-1 Visa) student admitted to WVU.
- Demonstrate interest and personal initiative in activities involving intercultural learning and exchange.
- Complete a scholarship application and a 500-1000 word essay or a two-to-five minute video on the following prompt: “Tell us about your leadership skills in your school or community, and how you plan to continue applying your leadership skills at the school you are applying to?”
How to Apply
- Apply and receive
admission to WVU by May 15.
- Submit the #YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship by downloading the application and emailing the finished application to globalaffairs@mail.wvu.edu
Scholarship Maintenance
- Scholarship can be renewed for up to 4 years (Fall and Spring semesters only).
- Participate in at least 10 hours of cultural sharing and engagement with the local community and document this experience to share with the Office of Global Affairs.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
- Enroll and successfully complete a minimum of 12 credits (exception may be granted) for Fall and Spring semesters.
Deadlines
- All admitted WVU students must submit their application by May 15.
- Recipients will be announced by June 1.
