International student advocate named

New international student advocate in Office of Global Affairs

MONDAY, JANUARY 8, 2018

David Smith, executive director of the Intensive English Program, will be taking on the additional role of International Student Advocate in the Office of Global Affairs. As International Student Advocate David will be handling issues, concerns, and general advocacy for the interests of international students on campus. Prior to joining Global Affairs in December 2016, David served as managing director of EducationUSA, as well as leadership roles at Emory University and The Ohio State University.

“We’re excited to establish an official advocate on campus for international students. It’s vital that we have a central point of contact where students can direct their concerns, as well as work with faculty and staff for what’s best for our international students,” said David Stewart, Associate Vice President for Global Strategies and International Affairs. “David’s compassion and care for students will serve the University well. I’m confident he will be able to help address our students concern, and promote their best interests.”

For international students who have issues or concerns, Global Affairs encourages faculty and staff to direct them to David Smith. David can be reached via email at david.smith5@mail.wvu.edu, or via phone at 304-293-5498.
