Global Affairs welcomes new international students to campus

On Tuesday, August 8, 2017 the University welcomes hundreds of new international students to campus as they partake in the redesigned New International Student Orientation. Shuttles picked up arriving students on Sunday and Monday, bringing them to campus to start their tenure as Mountaineers.

For this fall, students from 97 different countries were accepted to WVU helping to grow and diversify the former population of 2,262 students from 114 countries. “Making changes to our onboarding process for international students is more important than ever,” said David Stewart, Associate Vice President for Global Strategies and International Affairs. “With the increasing complexity of regulations and compliance rules, it’s essential that we reinforce these policies to our students to ensure.”

Additionally, Global Affairs has developed a series of programming aimed at helping to assimilate and onboard international students. Stewart added, “Through our programming, we hope to better help international students develop connection to the University and their identities as Mountaineers. Our international students are the next generation of world leaders and it’s our obligation to provide them with all of the tools needed to succeed here at WVU.”
